POSITIVE TRAINING

HORSES FEEDING

HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT TO OTHER TRAINING METHODS?

Within the equine industry there are many who call themselves trainers and behaviourists, all using different techniques! So understandably it is difficult for owners to choose the most suitable specialist to suit their needs.

Practical Horse People do not look to directly train your horse and then leave you with no improvement of personal skill when gone. Using only scientific techniques, where all theories can be traced to original research papers, Katie strives to leave every owner with a better understanding of their horse and step-by-step guides to put theory into action.

This technique does not just tell clients what they should do, instead every aspect is explained to help the owner make informed decisions for them and their horses future. Allowing people to learn and develop their own skills with their own animals is more important than the direct, showman approach.

HOW LONG DO SOLUTIONS TAKE?

Sorry but this is going to be a vague answer, as all horses and their humans have different learning rates, and some problems are more complex than others. Some simple behaviours may only take a few days, provided enough owner partake is allowed. Many of the problems that Katie is called out to see, are deeply learnt by the horse, becoming more complex and therefore taking longer to resolve. the key is to make changes as soon as you notice a problem - the longer you leave it the longer resolution will take.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON CAUSES OF PROBLEMS?

The most common causes of behavioural problems that Katie is called out to assist with, involved previous associations of pain or pressure in situations, owners with a lack of confidence and restrictions through management routine. These are all associated with a lack of accurate understanding of true equine behaviour, causing misunderstanding and misinterpretation amongst owners. Simple advice and education, along with step-by-step guides to solutions are key.

WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM?

Well this is great, but we are always able to learn and develop as effective horse people. As I do not use direct training practices, I provide you with the education and skill to apply from the initial consultation, throughout life, whether you want to train new behaviours, bring on young horses, prepare for competition or future events. This preventative training helps to ensure a happier and safer interaction between horse and human.
